FRANKFURT GAY PRIDE 2019
Every year in July, Frankfurt Gay Pride is celebrated. The ultimate event for lesbians and gays is an exciting mix of party, political demonstration and colorful show program. Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations and each time more than 100,000 visitors take part. The worldwide festival commemorates the first reported rebellion of homosexuals against police arbitrariness in New York’s Christopher Street on June 27, 1969. Therefore, on Saturday a highlight of the Gay Pride is the two-and-a-half-hour demonstration parade through downtown Frankfurt, where lesbians and gays are self-confident and celebrate their way of life. The shrill and colorful parade begins with rainbow flags at the Römer square and ends at the Konstablerwache. During the day, a particularly emotional moment is the traditional silence of death for the people who died of AIDS.
During the weekend, there will be a big stage with open-air disco. There will be a lot of live music from dance pop to pop music, music cabaret, drag-queen shows, karaoke and much more. In addition, gay and lesbian clubs and organizations also inform about their activities. In many bars and clubs in Frankfurt the party goes on until the early morning hours.
